Founded in 1980, Wakefield Independent School is firmly established with a proven record of success. The whole emphasis of the school is to provide a traditional balanced education, sufficiently progressive to bring out the best in every pupil, and fit them for adult life. The School is co-educational and admits pupils in the age range from 3 to 16. Although situated on two sites, a close liaison exists which ensures a smooth transition for all pupils as they progress through the school.
As a small school we are able to regulate the size of our classes and courses of instruction to suit the individual and to ensure that each achieves his/her maximum potential. In addition to a full academic programme, pupils are also encouraged to contribute to the wider aspects of school life, through sport, speech and drama or by membership of the choir.
There is a friendly community spirit throughout the school and an air of cheerful hard work pervades the classrooms. This family atmosphere is conducive to the social, intellectual and moral well-being of the children and high standards of behaviour are expected. Discipline is based on respect for oneself and others, and a sense of personal responsibility is encouraged.
A small number of rules exist, and acceptance of a place implies a commitment from pupils and parents to support the code of conduct which is intended to benefit the whole school. We are happy to offer places to pupils of all abilities. Admission is by interview, supported by a satisfactory report from the last school attended. The Headmaster is always happy to see parents by appointment, and visitors are always welcome.
